‘Play with Kane’ – Teammate admits star was teased about Spurs transfer links

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s Rubin Kazan teammates teased the winger about playing alongside Harry Kane when he was linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer, defender Georgi Zotov has revealed.

Kvaratskhelia has developed into one of the most exciting talents in Russian football since joining Kazan as a teenager back in 2019.

The winger scored four goals and provided eight assists in the Russian Premier League last season and his performances allegedly attracted the interest of several big clubs from Europe during the summer.

Reports from Italy indicated that Spurs and AC Milan were eyeing moves for the Georgian international, who was thought to be valued by Kazan at around €18m (£15.5million).

Additionally, Kvaratskhelia himself admitted during the transfer window that Leeds United had also shown interest in his services but the winger ultimately ended up staying put at Kazan.

Zotov has now revealed that the transfer rumours regarding the 20-year-old were a topic of conversation among the Kazan squad during the summer.

While the defender admitted that he is pleased Kvaratskhelia stayed put at the AK Bars Arena, he insisted that it was only a matter of time before the youngster makes a big move.

Zotov told Russian outlet Championat: “They constantly write that Tottenham, Juventus and more are interested in him. It cannot be just a crush.

“It was not super noticeable that someone was going to leave. All the professionals did their job to the end. They trained and played at 100 per cent.

“There were jokes about Khvicha when they wrote something new about him every day. ‘You will soon play with Kane,’ something like that.

“Personally, I am glad such a strong player remains in the team. Naturally, he himself would like to try his hand in Europe.

“But if he continues to play at the same level, the top clubs will not move away from him. This is an inevitable story. He will be taken away, 100 per cent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Spurs were heavily linked with the likes of Mikkel Damsgaard, Noni Madueke and Adama Traore in the final few days of the transfer window suggests that Kvaratskhelia likely ranked relatively low on Fabio Paratici’s wishlist as far as wingers are concerned.
