Tottenham Hotspur were unable to follow up their win over Juventus earlier this week with a similar result today, as they lost 2-1 to Man United in Shanghai.
Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the first half, before Moura equalised after the break. Spurs were bossing the game in the second 45, but a goal out of nowhere from Angel Gomes earned the Red Devils all three points.
Let’s take a look at how the players did today against United:
Gazzaniga – 6.5
Beaten at his near post for the first goal and looked a little dodgy when coming off his line once or twice. However, he did make some good stops along the way.
Walker-Peters – 7
Looks comfortable in the right-back berth, but I would like to see him get to the byline and deliver some testing crosses a little more often.
Tanganga – 7.5
Remarkable how natural he looks at the back alongside seasoned professionals and up against top-class strikers. One early nervy moment, but apart from that, he looked class.
Vertonghen – 6.5
His first start in pre-season and looked a little off the pace, but a consistent game as always from Jan.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Georgiou – 6
Still not convinced about this lad. Much better defensively today, but was still missing a lot when getting forward.
Winks – 6.5
Just keeps everything ticking over, even if it doesn’t look too impressive, a good game from the academy graduate.
Sissoko – 5
Way off the pace today and seemed to have something in for Dan James. The ‘stamp’ didn’t look great and someone at Spurs should have a word with the Frenchman.
Ndombele – 6
First start in Spurs colours and a steady performance. Still a long way from the compilation videos we have all seen, but he’s getting there.
Alli – 5
Yet again, Alli just seems to be a couple of weeks behind everyone else. He was half a yard too slow and his touch was off again today.
Parrott – 7
The more I see of this lad, the more I like him. Fed off scraps today and did it well. Looks great on the ball and could be a decent option for Poch this season.
Kane – 6.5
Spurs weren’t great going forward, but Kane definitely looks more athletic and powerful out there in this pre-season. Big things to come.
SUBS:
Foyth – 6.5
Came on and did very well at right-back and then in the centre of defence. When he cuts the mistakes out his game, the young Argentine looks class.
Alderweireld – 7
Never gives an attacker an inch. Spurs need to tie this man up to a new contract as soon as possible.
Skipp – 6
Similar to Winks, he just keeps the ball moving. I can only see his role at Spurs growing year on year.
Lamela – 5.5
Had little impact when he came on, but the effort is always therefrom Erik. An injury-free season could be the making of him at Spurs.
Moura – 7
Always a live wire when he comes on and managed to grab an equaliser to make it 1-1. Such a good option to have for Spurs, from the start and off the bench. Always scored a dramatic late header to make it 2-2.
Son – 8
Tottenham’s talisman. Son grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck when he came on, giving everything but the goal that Spurs needed.
White – 6
Did a good job at left-back after coming on. Made Lucas’ goal with his byline cross.
Roles – 5.5
Had little impact today when he came on, but looks a really good talent.
Eriksen – 7
Nice to see Eriksen back on the pitch, and he looked as if he had never been away. The Great Dane seemed sharp, fit, and aware. Let’s hope a new contract is on the way.
Marsh – 5
Came on at right-back for the last 20 minutes but had little to do. Gomes got in down his side for Man United’s second goal, but Marsh is not a right-back to be fair.
