PLAYER RATINGS: Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris – 6 – The Frenchman had an average game today as he was shaky on multiple occasions while keeping his calm on others, while his distribution with his feet could never be counted on. He was inches away from saving Martial’s goal but he was certainly not at fault for it.

Serge Aurier – 5 – He bombed forward at every opportunity but providing nothing for his teammates or himself. He was a liability at the back on certain occasions when United started to put on the pressure.

Toby Alderweireld – 6 – It was a solid enough game for the Belgian until the last 10 minutes when he started to not deal with Lukaku at all. This led to Lukaku first hitting the post and then providing the assist for Martial.

Jan Vertonghen – 6 – Similar to Alderweireld, the centre-back was unbothered for most of the game and was good on the ball when needed. However, he has to hang his head for not tracking Martial for United’s goal.

Eric Dier – 7 – He was the man of the match until the goal. He was dealing with anything that came at him all game long. Playing in the defence this time, Dier was physical, calm and smart. The goal should have been prevented by him though as he was really slow to reach to Lukaku’s header.

Ben Davies – 6 – Defensively the Welshman was at an unbelievable level as he denied a certain goal to Rashford in the second half and closed United’s right side with ease. However, he was not taking enough risks going forward and that left his team short on options.

Moussa Sissoko – 5 – The Frenchman started the game very well, and showed his physicality and enthusiasm early on. However, it looked like he switched teams in the second half as he was second to every ball and allowing United to have control of the game. He was rightly subbed off for Dembele in the 60th minute.

Harry Winks – 7 – Man of the match for Spurs as he was once again really impressive in the deep lying playmaker role. He was pressed very well by United’s attackers though; therefore he was not as effective as he could have been. The introduction of Dembele really sprung him forward as he was seen more and more in the attacking third.

Christian Eriksen – 5 – A very poor game from the Dane until Dembele came on the pitch. His passing was wayward and he was not in the spaces we are accustomed to see him. The control and physicality Dembele brought really helped him play better though, and he almost had an assist to Dele with a magical ball.

Dele Alli – 5 – We were watching a typical Dele Alli performance today as he was invisible in the attacking third for most of the match, until he almost popped up with a goal in the late stages. He had a good midfield performance though as he battled with United player all game long.

Heung-Min Son – 4 – Looked like a mistake from Poch to play him up top against a three-man defence as he was very quiet until he was subbed off in the 60th minute. He tried his hardest for his credit but the situation just did not suit him today.

Subs

Mousa Dembele – 7 – A fiery substitute appearance from the Belgian as he provided all the necessary qualities to his team: control, passing, and physicality in midfield. His introduction should have been the catalyst for Tottenham’s team but the fans should be very happy to see him back going forward.

Fernando Llorente – 5 – Not much to talk about his 30 minute appearance as he was looking for the right ball in the box which never came. Tried his chances with a couple flick-ons around the box those amounted to nothing as well.
