PLAYER RATINGS: Tottenham 1-0 Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur started the season in perfect fashion this evening with a 1-0 win over reigning champions Manchester City.

Let’s take a look at how the players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 8 – Started with a nervy moment where he failed to make the area his but looked so solid after that. Superb distribution and leadership too.

Japhet Tanganga – 9.5 – My MOTM. Whether it was Grealish, Sterling or anyone else, he had them on toast. He’s even getting better at getting foward a bit. Incredible performance.

Davinson Sanchez – 8.5 – Such a solid performance all things considered. Calm and collected on the ball, tracked runners and picked some great long balls.

Eric Dier – 8.5 – That box was his territory today. Anything coming in was cleared efficiently and anything on the deck was blocked. Superb stuff!

Sergio Reguilon – 8 – One of the most promising defensive performances in a Spurs shirt for Reggy. His forward games suits a striker like Kane for aerial crosses but he was a great outlet.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 9 – Mr Consistent. It was like he’s never been away. He covered every blade of grass, turned over possession and used it so well. Midfield general!

Oliver Skipp – 8 – Hojbjerg’s protoge. His first PL start in a good while and he looked right at home. Got stuck in and wasn’t afraid to play positive passes.

Dele Alli – 7 – A pretty average first half was followed up by a gut-busting second half. So much hard work on and off the ball, even if it wasn’t exactly his day.

Steven Bergwijn – 7.5 – Finishing that chance would have been the icing on a really selfless performance. The goals will come if he keeps working hard.

Lucas Moura – 8 – He is high risk high reward. Gives the ball away a lot but also drives Spurs forward and makes things happen. So brave today.

Heung-min Son – 9 – It was tough for him today trying to hold the ball up and win headers but he stood up when Spurs needed him and delivered.

Subs

Giovani Lo Celso – 7 – Some incredible work on the break and winding down the clock at the end from Gio.

Matt Doherty – 6.5 – Looked solid in his few 1v1s.

Cristian Romero – N/A – What a way to make a debut!
