PLAYER RATINGS: Tottenham 1-0 Sheffield United

Michel Vorm – He did not have much to do in the game and dealt with anything that came at him. He distributed the ball well from the back and started Tottenham attacks.

Kyle Walker – His attacking play is still not good enough and he had some nervy moments at the back. He lost the ball needlessly at times and faltered Spurs attacks.

Ben Davies – He was the worst player for Spurs tonight as he found it really hard to contain Campbell-Rice.

Eric Dier – He had a good game at the back as he dealt with Sheffield United’s long balls with ease. He should have scored with the two headed chances he had.

Jan Vertonghen – He had a great game today as he contained United’s attacks while showing good passing. He provided the chip for Soldado’s penalty.

Benjamin Stambouli– He was the anchor in front of the Spurs back four and he gave Mason freedom to go forward. He stopped United’s counter attacks and started Tottenham’s attacks with his passes.

Christian Eriksen – It did not help the Dane that United was organized and showed no intention of attacking. He could not find the spaces that he loves to get and he came in and out of the game too often. He played a great through ball to Adebayor in the first half but that was about it for him.

Ryan Mason – He had a decent game coming back from injury but he did not show the same intention to drive forward as he did before. However, he had some good passes and touches that kept the Spurs attacks going.

Emmanuel Adebayor – The Togolese did not have a good return to the starting XI as he missed a glorious chance in the first half. He tried hard to win the ball but did not show enough quality to stay on the pitch.

Andros Townsend – He was too predictable for most of the game even though he tried really hard to break the United defence. He delivered decent crosses into the box for Dier and he scored the penalty with ease.

Harry Kane – He played behind Adebayor at the start and drifted to the left later. That effected his performance as he couldn’t get the balls that he likes and could not show his quality in the box.

Subs

Roberto Soldado – He did not have much to show for in the game but provided the penalty for his team.

Mousa Dembele – The Belgian replaced Mason in the 65th minute and brought discipline and stability to the midfield.

Paulinho – He came on for Stambouli and had some decent runs behind the defence. However, he mostly played in front of his back four and did not show enough to break into the starting XI.
