Player Ratings vs Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur Kit - Header

Gomes (7) – Could’ve read a copy of his favourite lad mag undisturbed for most of the game. Little chance with Gibson’s strikes.

Hutton (4) – The heart sinks when his name’s on the team sheet. I think we’ve seen the best of him and it’s not good enough.

Bale (7) – A very positive & direct performance. Should cover well for Assou-Ekotto in the coming weeks and months. Exempt from the general criticism.

Bassong (7) – Also one of the better displays.

Dawson (6) – A typical Dawson effort, distribution as ever lets him down.

Lennon (5) – Out of position and starved of the ball. Generally anonymous

Palacios (5) – The odd good tackle as usual but a liability when given the ball. Caught in possession several times.

Jenas (5) – I’m a Jenas fan but this was very poor.

Bentley (4) – It breaks your heart that he tries so hard to do well and can’t do it but his  free kicks and corners said it all. When Bale curled in a free kick near the end that didn’t hit the first man or go straight into touch it seemed like a revelation. He looked so slow as well.

Keane (4) – Shocking first touch meant he never influenced the play or got the chance to link with Defoe effectively.

Defoe (5) – One more than Robbie as he did have a couple of shots. Should’ve scored to make it 1-1 though.

Redknapp (3) – Inappropriate team selection and tactics. No effort to change things that weren’t working until too late.

  1. Hutton, Jenas, Keane and Bentley should all be given nothing more than a 3.5! I don’t know how Bassong got a 7. He hardly did anything. Thudd and Palacios maybe a 5. Bale 7 Lennon 6. The rest a 5.

  2. I hope Bale gets some credit elsewhere too. He really looked fantastic. He’s not the fastest off the ball and sometimes he looks clumsy, but he really had some great moves and 3 or 4 stellar crosses.
As for Bentley, I think his first half looked better.
I think the loss gets blamed on the first half’s midfield defending. Where or where were the tackles around the box?!?

  3. Gomes (6) – Some good saves, and som bad saves
Hutton (3) – Poor, poor, can’t say anything else
Bale (7) – Super, running and taking of players, and making chances
Bassong (6) – Good defender, but couldn’t show it all today
Dawson (6) – Also a good defender, but can play better
Lennon (6) – Running, and running and running, but not on his best
    Palacios (5) – Couldn’t show his quality
Jenas (5) – Trying to play, and it is good, but not showing much
Bentley (4) – Trying to do much but fails
Keane (4) – Not showing much, a bit annonymus
Defoe (6) – Some good chances, but couldn’t score the goal
    Redknapp (3) – Poor tactic

  4. Another slant on this game. I am not sure what I feel about us loaning out our youngsters instyead of playing a reserve team. This means that in games like last night we cannot give the likes of Bostock, Mason, Smith, Livemore, Tarrabat, Rose a good run out against better opposition which I think is a big shame. I am a fan of having the reserve side and playing the youngsters in the CC or FA cupgames.

  5. Both MU goals came from Spurs mistakes.

Bale’s misdirected pass lost possession and allowed an MU break which led to 0-1.

A Keane error which lost possession led to the build up for 0-2.

That Spurs team performance was a slur on the great name of Tottenham Hotspur. Almost every pass was telegraphed! Possession was not contested. HR has to manage effectively and his failure to replace Bentley and Keane was unbelieveable.

An slightly improved performance by Bale. Whats happened to Palacious???

  6. Why would we play our youngsters in the cups?

They are a great chance to reach wembley. I went the previous two seasons and they were both great days out. Why disrespect the cups by playing an understrenghth team?

And how would it benifit the young players anyway? Play one game and get knocked out?

We should have gone all out for it and played a full strength team. We if we win the carling cup we are in europe in March and that can release some of the pressure.

  7. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE ON TIME MIGHT AS WELL OF GIVEN THEM A BYE
LAST YEAR FA CUP SECOND HALF CANT SAY WHICH HALF WAS WORSE COUPLE OF DAYS AGO HARRY SAID LEAGUE MORE IMPORTANT SAID SAME THING LAST YEAR WHAT HE SAYS IN PUBLIC DOES HE SAY IN PRIVATE I THINK NOT
WHAT EVER HE SAID AT HALF TIME DIDNT WORK AGAIN WELL IT PROBABLY DID FULLBACK NEAVER PUSHED FOREWARD AS MUCH MID-FIELD COMPLETLY INEPT CROUCH [HOW IS THIS CLOWN BETTER THAN PAV]VIDIC HAD HIM IN HIS POCKET [TWICE LEAGUE AS WELL]
KEANE BASICALLY I HAVE GIVEN UP MUST HAVE A CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT SAYING HE HAS TO PLAY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIMEON THE PITCH IF NOT INJURED NO OTHER EXPLANATION
IN 50YRS OF WATCHING THEM THESE 2 ARE IN MY TOP TEN WORST PERFORMANCES FOR A SECOND HALF ALONE WITH THE UEFA CUP LAST YEAR AS WELL ADDED

  8. ALSO I THOUGHT AT LEAST U SHOULD KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT FOOTBALL WHEN WRITING A WEB BASSONG 7 YOU ARE HAVIN A GIRAFFE
NOTICED CROUCH WAS MISSED OUT HOW ABOUT 2 AND BASSONG 3

  9. I think it’s clear that no-one at the club gives a damn about qualifying for the Europa League. When we did qualify for it we didn’t really seem to take it very seriously. Given that attitude it really would have made more sense to experiment with the ‘kids’.

  10. what the fuck is wrong with u people lennon played well bale gave them the first goal did u watch cos i did bale could av easliy passed it to lennon but decided 2 pass it to jenas and then done the same but passed it to keane the next time lennon may not have threatened them as much as what he usely does but thats cos bale attcks more like hutton while corluka who usely plays behind lennon gives lennon the ball more to attack and sometimes press forward it not LENNON FAULT!!!!!!!!

  11. lennon rox. dont dis him.he works his sox off every game, and gave united trouble.bale was comical and lucky.defo is deadly? mabe usualy but he should have scored. lennon was starved of ball, otherwise we would have had a chance. when modric is back. him and lennon will rock out the prem.hopefuly 4th place finish.once again it matters about consistency.

  12. Stop ex players picking balls out of various bags bowls gizmo’s and pulling Spurs out with Man utd its getting monotones and smacks of hot balls how can we trust Sky when they also pick the Tv games get ready for the Fa cup draw. The draw should be done like the lottery machines no one touching them and nice sky sports women pressing the button. The match well all will be revealed in the January Transfer Window why we never shot at goal when we had the chances when commentators asked asked DAVID when beat Goliath the Russian mountain he only threw 12 punches he said he broke is hand in the second round fair enough. So like i say wait and see where some of our players are linked with and this will tell us why we never got out of A PRACTICE MATCH mode.
