Player Ratings vs Sunderland

Heurelho Gomes - Header

Gomes (9) – Not quite a perfect ten due to dodgy kick out in second half that put us under pressure. Excellent performance.

Corluka (5) – Shown up for pace, short back header gave chance to Richardson, mugged by Reid a few times.

Assou-Ekotto (6) – Nice cross for goal but needs to deliver more when going forward. Terrible free-kick just after Gordon went off

Woodgate (6) – Looked slow but determined. Hopefully match practice will see him return to his best.

King (5) – Worryingly slow and tentative. Injured again. How long can he be allowed to limp on?

Jenas (5), Huddlestone (6), Palacios (5) – All three hampered and hamstrung by the formation. Massive improvement after Kranjcar came on.

Keane (6) – Found space well for goal, worked hard.

Crouch (6) – Made first goal but generally crowded out.

Defoe (6) – Rarely found space until late on. Held ball up well for goal two.

  1. Spurs were very lucky to beat Sunderland. Their position in the PL reminds me of Hull last year. Apart from Gomes, the team looks very poor and I can see another one of Rednapps spend and run teams waiting to happen. Leaving Levy and the supporters to pick up the pieces.
Where are Bournmouth, West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton now.
This time next year I can see Spurs at the btm of the PL and Harry on a cruise somewhere.
Spurs are in a false position.

  2. Peter I too worry about false position/lucky results (although we were unlucky against Stoke). Still rather have the points even if we didnt deserve them. We need to improve, play to a formation that suits us better and get Mod/Lennon back. If we dont spend money in Jan we may have problems at left and centre back especially during the ANC, and many of us feel that a midfielder is an absolute esssential. On previous clubs, Portsmouth were first division until Harry got them promoted and kept them in the PL. He was only at Southampton a few months so he cant be held responsible for their woes a number of years and managers later. Remember their idiot chairman hiring England’s rugby coach? We do have a bigger crowds/fanbase and a stronger/more financially astute chairman than any of these clubs. Final point: if we dont spend money, people moan at our lack of ambition (we were modest net spenders in the summer)and if we do spend money Harry is saddling us with a huge burden – cant win!

  3. keane 6…u mustb joking..did nothing all game except piont and shout…iif he got 6 bent got 10, as did all sunderland team…and assou created 2 genuine chances with the only crosses of the game for spurs …afta his poor free kick…he stil managed to play the ball into area and we som how managed to miss a clear chance
rednapp and coaches 1 pt for not working on n e thing during training

  4. Christ I’m fed up with whining Spurs fans!

In Harry’s first 38 games league in charge of Tottenham he won 65 points, the same number as the great Martin Jol in his second season. As such we are where we are by merit.

True we aren’t playing too well at the moment but we are picking up points and that’s the sign of a good team…..look at Man U.

This is our best chance of CL football since MJ left, let’s get behind the team….booing them at half-time was a complete disgrace!
