Player reveals he slept in his Spurs shirt after Champions League win against Marseille

Tottenham Hotspur marked their return to the Champions League on Wednesday evening when they hosted Marseille in the first match of Group D.

Spurs’ fixture against their French opponents was the first time in which Antonio Conte had led his side into European football’s most prestigious club competition, having last season experienced the UEFA Conference League.

Wednesday’s fixture was not only a milestone for Conte, but it also marked a first for some of his players with Richarlison having already attracted headlines over his two-goal display on his European debut and showed his emotion following the final whistle in a warm embrace with his father in the front row of the west stand.

Yves Bissouma was another player who got to taste the experience of the Champions League for the first time when he came off the bench five minutes from time to replace Rodrigo Bentancur.

The summer signing revealed on his Instagram story (8/9/22) that such was his delight in playing in the competition, that he decided to wear his playing shirt to bed that evening.

He included the caption alongside a photo of his shirt: “I sleep all the night with this shirt yesterday @championsleague. It’s magic.”

Bissouma is obviously proud to have made the step up from Brighton to have the chance now to showcase his talents at the very top of European football.  The Malian has had a difficult start to life at the club, having contracted covid during pre-season and was below-par against West Ham United.

He now has the opportunity to showcase his talent and step up to prove why he was considered to be one of the buys of the summer window.
