Player states his pride after Jose Mourinho named him as the latest Spurs captain

Tottenham Hotspur took on Liverpool yesterday in the Premier League, losing the match 1-0 and continuing their winless streak in all competitions.

Despite starting so well under Jose Mourinho, Spurs are now without a win in the last four, with losses to Southampton and Liverpool, as well as draws against Middlesbrough and Norwich.

However, Spurs did show signs of improvement against Liverpool, bearing in mind that this is a team that sits top of the table with just two points dropped all season.

Tottenham defender so well against the Reds and were unlucky to concede at all after a questionable throw-in decision.

Japhet Tanganga impressed on his Spurs Premier League debut, with Davinson Sanchez also catching the eye, but plaudits must also go to Toby Alderweireld who organised the defensive unit.

Mourinho named the centre-back as captain for the day, with Kane and Lloris injured and Vertonghen on the bench. Alderweireld has now spoken of his pride at wearing the armband on Twitter.
