Player who left Spurs recently shows he still watches after message to Kane

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Matt Doherty has shared a congratulatory message on his Instagram (05/02/23) to celebrate Harry Kane breaking the all-time goalscoring record at Spurs.

Tottenham came away from a crucial clash with Manchester City with all three points after a tight affair ended 1-0 to Antonio Conte’s side. The result was sealed by a Harry Kane goal after 15 minutes, which proved to not only be a key goal in the game but also in his own personal career.

The goal, Kane’s 19th of the season (Transfermarkt), saw the 29-year-old reach 200 Premier League goals and move ever closer to Alan Shearer’s record as the all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League era.

While he doesn’t quite have that record in the bag yet, Kane did seal another huge landmark in the process. The goal was Kane’s 267th for Spurs, making him the club’s all-time top goalscorer, taking the mantle from Jimmy Greaves (GOAL).

Kane has been celebrated by various players, pundits, and pretty much everyone associated with the game of football since he claimed the record yesterday evening. And now, Doherty is the latest to join the parade.

Doherty played with Kane from 2020 until deadline day of the January transfer window this year. The Irishman was released by Spurs and joined Spanish side Atletico Madrid (Sky Sports).

On Instagram, Kane’s former teammate said: “Best striker in the world, without a question.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I totally agree with Doherty’s claim. There is no striker I would rather have in my team than Harry Kane, with all the creativity and intelligence he brings, along with an incredible eye for goal, of course. I am genuinely delighted to see him get all this praise and recognition upon breaking the record, and long may it continue (hopefully until the day he retires, with Spurs).
