Player who left Tottenham this year pictured still wearing the training kit

Pierluigi Gollini was pictured wearing the Tottenham training kit on his Instagram stories this week, despite leaving the North London club at the end of last season.

Gollini did not make a single Premier League appearance during his season-long loan spell at Spurs during 2021/22.

Despite being Hugo Lloris’ understudy last campaign, the Italian admitted back in May that he would like to remain at Tottenham as he feels ‘attached’ to the group of players at the club (DAZN Talks podcast).

However, Spurs opted not to take up the option to sign the goalkeeper permanently or to extend his loan spell, with Gollini returning to his parent club Atalanta.

According to reports, the 27-year-old is now close to completing a move to Fiorentina, the club where he came through the ranks as a youngster (Gianluca Di Marzio).

No matter where he ends up this summer, Gollini seemingly continues to have a fondness for Tottenham, with the goalkeeper pictured donning the club’s training gear.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Gollini was homegrown, I am confident that Spurs would have decided to either sign him permanently or extend his loan spell at the club, given how well-liked the 27-year-old was in the Tottenham changing room.

However, our issues with homegrown numbers meant that the club had no choice but to sign an English goalkeeper rather than wasting a non-homegrown spot on a backup goalie.
