Tim Sherwood has claimed that the love the Spurs fans and the club showered on Harry Kane yesterday could have an impact on the striker’s decision about his future.
Kane become Tottenham’s outright top scorer yesterday after netting his 267th strike for the club, thus clinching Jimmy Greaves’ record that had stood for over half a century.

Chants of ‘he’s one of our own’ were ringing around the terraces at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium throughout the majority of the game against Manchester City.
There has been plenty of speculation over Kane’s future in recent weeks, with some reports suggesting that he is a target for the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich for next summer (Sky Sports).
However, other sources have indicated that Spurs remain optimistic about the 29-year-old’s future as the striker had indicated to the club that his preference would be to sign a new deal (Ben Jacobs on Football Transfers).
Sherwood admitted that Kane has a difficult decision to make on his future but insisted that Spurs fans cannot begrudge him a move away if he decides he wants a new challenge in the summer.
The former Tottenham interim head coach told Optus Sport: “They sent a message [to the fans] to stay behind. They’re playing on his heartstrings there.
“It will be difficult for him, we know he’s coming towards the end of his contract at Tottenham and it’s a difficult one to leave when you’ve got so much love being poured on you from the terraces and individually he’s not doing bad, is he? I can see it from both sides.
“I can see him staying there for the rest of his career and breaking Alan Shearer’s record and I can see him wanting to leave, like he did to Manchester City when it never materialised.
“He got his head down as the true pro that he is, realised the chance has gone and gave everything he’s got on that pitch for the club as he’s always done.
“But as a club, you’d have to accept if he doesn’t feel he can win anything at Tottenham then you have to let him move on. He’s left nothing behind at that football club, he gives everything for that shirt.”

If Liverpool’s decline this season (and Manchester City’s to a lesser extent) shows anything, it is that no team in the Premier League can offer Kane a guarantee of winning titles any longer.
Arsenal have shown this season that a couple of smart signings can catapult a club to a title charge, and so there is no reason why Spurs cannot make similar progress under Conte if they get their signings right.
So, I believe that it would be in Kane’s best interest to remain at Tottenham rather than join Man Utd, who would certainly not offer the striker guarantees of silverware.
