Some Tottenham Hotspur fans are horrified by the prospect of the club signing Liverpool central defender Dejan Lovren in the summer.
Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi reported recently that Spurs are locked in a battle with their North London rivals Arsenal for Lovren’s signature in the summer.
The 30-year-old has found himself falling down the pecking order at Anfield this season and is said to be keen to seek a move to play regularly.
The experienced defender has been an important player for the Reds since moving from Southampton in 2014 but has seen his place alongside Virgil van Dijk taken by Jo Gomez.
He was famously bullied by Harry Kane in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Liverpool in 2017 and was subsequently withdrawn by the Jurgen Klopp before half-time.
That game is seen by some as the catalyst for Liverpool’s improvement with the Reds deciding to bring in Virgil van Dijk from Southampton just a few months later.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the possibility of the Croatian centre half moving to North London:
Please @arsenal take him

Willian? Livren? See levy doesn’t want to challenge for the title again next season too.

With the Dejan Lovren links I think it is clear to see how far down we have come in the last year. Ahead of the season everything was looking so positive and now we’re being linked with this just a year on from the Champions league final.
Laughable really. #THFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/AWgHOkdPeh

I might start a collection for the purchase of Dejan Lovren and give him to Arsenal just to make sure he doesn’t end up at Spurs

Why the hell would we want Dejan Lovren – Liverpool's worst CB.

Lovren is no better than what we have at Spurs, need a commanding Van Dijk type centre half

Why don’t we just enter the championship now? https://t.co/rp4jAKf5UD

Spurs Web Opinion
I believe a lot of this is just paper talk based on the fact that we are in the market for a central defender. I don’t believe Lovern is the answer to our defensive problems and would much rather see Jan Vertonghen stay for another season rather than signing the Liverpool defender.
