Some Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react to Jan Vertonghen’s latest cryptic message. The Belgian is currently set to leave the club in the summer on a free transfer.
Vertonghen entered this season in the final year of his North London contract but, unlike Toby Alderweireld, has not yet signed an extension or a new deal.
Jan joined Tottenham from Ajax back in 2012 and has gone on to represent the Lilywhites across eight seasons. In that time, the Belgian centre-back has managed 311 games and 12 goals for the club (Wikipedia).
As he is well into the final six months of his contract, Vertonghen is allowed to talk to non-English clubs about a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer free transfer.
The defender took to Twitter today to tweet a clock emoji, followed by an ellipsis.
Some Spurs fans took this to mean an upcoming new contract, while others believe he means the Premier League will soon be suspended due to the coronavirus.
