Poch asked about Benitez’s lack of resources at Newcastle

It has been well documented that Rafa Benitez has had to work with limited resources at his disposal at Newcastle. Club owner Mike Ashley has made it clear that the club aren’t in a position to spend big and the Magpies have even let go several of their top players in the last couple of seasons.

Despite this, Benitez has done an admirable job at St.James’ Park first guiding the team to promotion and then a solid showing in the Premier League with the side sitting in 14th place, well clear of the relegation zone.

This time around, Mike Ashley decided to splash the cash on deadline day as the club bought in Antonio Barreca, and Miguel Almiron, with the later signing for a club record fee. Ahead of Tottenham’s game against the Magpies on Saturday, Pochettino was asked about the job Benitez is doing at Newcastle given the circumstances, and the Argentine was all praise for the Spaniard.

Speaking as a part of the pre-match press conference, Pochettino told Football.London, “I don’t want to talk about the resources of another club. They broke the record of the club. They signed Almerion and another.

“Benitez is one of the best coaches in the world and he’s doing a fantastic job with limited resources, I believe what he is telling to you.

“I think we all complain, who is on the top and the bottom, that is in our nature, all the coaches, we are so ambitious and never are completely happy.”
