Poch congratulates Spurs pair for “massive achievement” after Dortmund win

Tottenham Hotspur became the first team to beat Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion this season, as they overcame the Germans 1-0 courtesy of a second-half strike by Harry Kane.

The result meant that Spurs had thrashed Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate and qualified for the final 8 of the Champions League for the first time since 2011. While this was an impressive feat in itself, a couple of Spurs players also reached individual milestones in the match.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in European competition with 24 goals, overtaking Jermain Defoe. Kane has continued from where he left off after returning from injury with this being his 3rd goal in 4 games.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s clean sheet was Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris’ 100th in a Tottenham shirt. The Frenchman certainly had to work hard for the clean sheet as he came up with several crucial saves in the first half to stop Dortmund from taking the lead.

Pochettino congratulated both players on their achievement after the game. When he was asked about Kane’s record, the Argentine told Football.London, “I am so happy, you know very well my emotion with him. He is one of the best strikers in the world.

“The mentality and determination is fantastic. I want to congratulate him and I want to congratulate Hugo because it was his 100 clean sheet for Tottenham, That is a massive achievement too.”
