Poch critical of team’s first-half performance against Watford

Tottenham overcame Watford 2-1 courtesy of late strikes from Son Heung-Min and Fernando Llorente, to tighten their grip on a top four finish. However, for most of the game, it looked like it was going to be yet another frustrating night for Spurs as they struggled to break down a resilient Watford.

The home side were pretty sluggish in the first half and paid the price for it as Watford took the lead through a scrappy goal from a corner. Tottenham did not trouble Ben Foster too much for the rest of the half.

The home side, however, upped the intensity in the second half and pinned Watford back. Spurs kept probing and eventually got their reward in the final ten minutes of the game. While Pochettino said he was pleased with how Spurs managed to turn the game around, he conveyed his disappointment with the side’s first-half display.

In his post-match press conference, Pochettino was asked if his players showed patience to which he told Football.London, “Yes, I think too much in the first half. I think we cannot a goal like we conceded, and to put in risk winning the game.”

“I think the first half was difficult to play and we didn’t create too much but it was under control the game, and to concede in the way that we conceded was so painful. At half-time, after we talked, it was so different in the second half and we dominated the game.”
