Poch hints he will prioritise these competitions this year

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in the unique position of fighting on four fronts in January.

Spurs are currently third in the Premier League, just six points off the lead, which will obviously be at the forefront of Pochettino’s mind.

However, they also have big ties against Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea in the Champions League and Carabao Cup semi-final respectively.

As if this wasn’t enough, Tottenham finally take on Tranmere tonight in the FA Cup, the fourth trophy they are fighting for this season.

So which competitions will Poch prioritise?

Spurs have gone over a decade without a trophy, and Pochettino himself has never won one as a manager, so a cup could be a good place to start.

However, the Argentine gaffer is adamant that a domestic cup will not take his side to the next level, hinting that he will be gunning for the Champions and Premier Leagues.

He did however concede that it would be nice to win an FA or Carabao Cup.

Poch said (Telegraph): “Of course we want to win a trophy, but that doesn’t mean it is going to put Tottenham on a different level.

“What puts you on a different level is when you win the Premier League and are capable to challenge every season for the Premier League, and if you play in the Champions League and really believe you are a real contender one day to win the Champions League. My ambition is to win the Champions League one day with Tottenham, or the Premier League.

“If we hadn’t finished how we did in the last three seasons, I don’t know if Daniel would have said, ‘OK, you’re 10th in the league’ and given me a new contract.”

  1. If these are his words (Poch)…”My ambition is to win the Champions League one day with Tottenham, or the Premier League.”

Then it looks like the big man is staying. [insert Fist Pump & tears of Joy][And a middle finger to ManU] lol

    • Right on ?

I reckon he will 100% stay if we haven’t moved into the new stadium, as he has promised to lead us into it. Maybe that’s why he’s pushing to move in asap! Lol

      COYS!

  2. I never believed (and I still believe) that Poch wouldn’t be lured by the sirens of Man U or Real Madrid.
He wouldn’t be a ‘fit’ with those greedy impatient ‘entitled’ clubs, as they wouldn’t give him a project to
build. Success now is their mantra, at any cost and the purchase of any player ‘worth’ £100m or more! He’d be a caretaker at RM, merely keeping the ‘machine’ oiled, in that, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Poch could win the CL in his first season at RM, but he won’t be remembered for it, and will end up another statistic in their long line of forgotten coaches/managers over the past 20 years. And look where some of those that ARE remembered are now (Newcastle/West Ham etc) having had the so-called ‘cream job’ at that madhouse! United are little better. They took a decent manager like Moyes away from his own project at Everton, and he’s never been the same since or found anything like his Everton role! The shadow of Ferguson and the manta of immediate success would ruin Poch too …not because he’s not good enough (he’s more than good enough) but because United won’t give him the time to build a team in his own image and make huge decisions. Spurs have been a better team in the last 4 years than United, and are going in the right direction to be on a par with them as a club once more. You can bet that Poch has earned the right to be in on every single one of Spurs’ major decisions over recent years, and he has something to aim for. Would he get that time and respect at United? Hardly ..and imagine him trying to sort out all those player ‘egos’, disposing of many, until he finds players all willing to sing from the same hymnsheet!
But as for prioritising, it hasn’t come much harder than the League Cup …Arsenal in the QFs, Chelsea (twice) in the SFs, and, if we get there, Citeh in the final!! No, just take every game as it comes and who knows? …we MIGHT just win the PL …we MIGHT just win the CL …FA Cup and/or League Cup ..or we again, might win nothing. But we must always aim for GLORY in every game we play!!
