Poch: I am proud of this squad irrespective of whether we win titles

Tottenham made sure they will be taking a slender lead into the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal at Stamford Bridge next week after overcoming Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley. Tottenham took the lead through a Harry Kane penalty and created several chances in the first half.

The second half, however, was a completely different story as the visitors started to dominate and piled on the pressure. However, Tottenham defended resolutely and managed to keep a clean sheet.

The win sees Tottenham continue their impressive recent form as they remain very much alive in all four competitions. Pochettino lavished praise on his players after the game and said that he will be proud of this team irrespective of whether they win titles or not.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Pochettino told Football.London, ” I think for me the players that are playing I need to say thank you because today the effort was massive, how we ran, how we fight, how we competed.”

“I am so pleased and so proud to have this squad and work together. In the end, win or not win titles, I’m always going to feel very proud about the players we have.”

Pochettino, however, warned his players not to get carried away and reminded them that they have only accomplished half of the job, and still needed to get a result at Stamford Bridge next week to make it to the Carabao Cup final.

He added, “It’s only half-time. We need to wait. We need to show that we are capable to beat them there and go to the final. I think the season that we are doing is fantastic.”
