Poch insists that Tottenham’s difficult start to the season is now closed

Tottenham Hotspur are finally back to winning ways after a 2-1 victory over Southampton in difficult circumstances yesterday.

Spurs were forced to play the majority of the match with ten men after Serge Aurier was sent off for two yellow card challenges in quick succession.

Tottenham are now up to fourth in the table after a difficult start to the season that saw them win just two out of eight before the match against the Saints.

Pochettino had complained of an unsettled squad at the start of the season, with the European transfer window shutting after the Premier League window.

The likes of Eriksen and Alderweireld, who have just a year left on their contracts, were being linked with potential moves away in the summer (Sun and Sky Sports).

Danny Rose was also linked with a move to Watford on deadline day (The Athletic), while Victor Wanyama was linked with a move to Club Brugge (Sun).

All four of these players had a part in the win over Southampton, with one journalist posing to Poch that ‘some players who there has been speculation about gave really top performances’.

Poch said (Football London): “I am happy for the squad, happy for those players you are telling me now, the fans, the staff. We are a club that after five years together, the players and everyone together put the club in a different level than previously. A few months ago, we played the final of the Champions League and they deserve full credit.

“It is always difficult in a season that was difficult to start for different circumstances, but now this situation is closed. Now we need to recover our best feeling and the only way is with good victories, the belief and the faith and the togetherness there inside.

“Sometimes I am not happy because the players or the fans or the staff are affected for a lot of things that happen around us. I promise that we are always in the same way. When we qualified for the final it was the same as yesterday and today. Keeping the balance is so important.

“When good people suffer, people like in my squad, my staff, all the club, the fans, it is a thing to be concerned about. You can only be harder and tough and work hard to be more consistent and provide the happiness to our family.”
