Poch on whether Chelsea result will affect players against Palace

Mauricio Pochettino said that he had a sleepless night after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea in a penalty shootout.

An injury-hit Tottenham team fought back from being a goal behind in the tie, to pull off a draw through a Fernando Llorente header, thus forcing a penalty shootout.

However, it wasn’t to be Spurs’ day as all four Chelsea players who stepped up to take a spot kick scored while both Dier and Moura failed to convert for Tottenham.

With Spurs being knocked out of the competition, the focus now shifts to the FA Cup with Spurs making the short trip to Crystal Palace for the fourth round tie on Sunday.

Pochettino confirmed that the squad was pretty down after the result on Thursday night. However, he said that Spurs will not let the disappointment from Thursday affect them against Palace on Sunday.

He said that Spurs can’t afford to dwell on the result as games continue to come thick and fast.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Pochettino told Football.London: “For sure we are going to be in a good position to compete on Sunday. The competition doesn’t stop. You need to be ready.”

“Of course, one thing is to be sad, one thing is to feel disappointed, but you cannot stop to think, you need to be ready to compete in the next game.”
