Poch passes new contract buck for Eriksen, Dele and co on Levy

Tottenham Hotspur currently sit only two points off the lead in the Premier League despite not signing a single new player in the summer transfer window this year.

They became the first ever Prem side to so this, and have a settled side hasn’t looked like a bad thing so far this season as they equalled their best ever start to a campaign.

Some would argue that one big name signing would have made all the difference, but given the choice between that and tying down the current crop to new deals is surely a no brainer. I have placed a bet using a bethard bonus code that Tottenham will finish in the top four this season.

The likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Erik Lamela, Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks and more signed new deals in the summer, committing their long-term futures to the club.

Tottenham will surely want to continue on this path for the rest of the year, as a number of other first teamers are running a little low on contract time.

Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele are all in the final year of their respective deals.

Vertonghen has the option to extend by one year, which Spurs will surely take. Alderweireld has a similar option in his contract, but this would trigger a £25m release clause in the summer. Spurs will want to tie him down to a completely new deal at some point this season or risk losing him altogether.

It doesn’t appear like Dembele will be signing a new deal, with top European and Chinese clubs sniffing around the Belgian.

Dele Alli is also rumoured to be in line for a new deal, as is Christian Eriksen. Eriksen has under two years left on his current contract, and with Real Madrid keeping tabs, it is pivotal for Spurs to get his signature on a new one.

Pochettino was asked about new contracts in his press conference.

Football London report he said: “All those questions are for Daniel. I wish one day, I would love to have Daniel next to me, answering. It’s a big, big problem for me to answer all those questions.

“It’s so difficult for me because he is in charge of all the financial side and terms and everything. You are allowed to criticise me when we don’t win games but in terms of the financial side, it’s not my area.

“I don’t know because only he knows. Only Daniel knows the reality of the accounts in the bank. I can have some idea like you or like our fans but it’s difficult to have a conversation about, ‘Oh, Daniel, you have money, you don’t have money’.”
