Poch responds to journalist’s claims that rivals are targeting these two weak links in games

Tottenham Hotspur were once again undone by an inability to break down a stubborn defence, as well as a lack of personal defensive discipline yesterday against Newcastle.

The Lilywhites started the match sluggishly and were soon made to pay when the visitors cut them in half with a simple ball through the defence.

Davinson Sanchez was sucked out, leaving a huge whole in the centre of the back line, while Danny Rose was just unable to cover and block the Joelinton shot.

This left-sided partnership is a rather new one at Tottenham, with Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen being the usual duo on that side in recent seasons.

However, the Belgian has been left on the bench of late, with young Sanchez coming in to replace him for the time being.

One journalist in Poch’s post-match press conference believes that rivals are targeting the space between these two players as a weak point for Spurs.

The journo asked: “Are you worried that teams are targeting Davinson Sanchez and Danny Rose, three times here Newcastle put the ball in between them and scored from one and could have had more and Villa scored from a ball between them as well?”

Poch replied (Football London): “Only if you see the end of the situation. We need to analyse, like VAR, we need to go back and see maybe 10, 20 or 30 seconds before what happened and why this situation arrived. We cannot blame them. First of all, it’s to blame me and then blame the collective performance when you concede a goal like this.”
