Poch says Spurs’ achievements cannot be compared with other clubs

Pochettino is one of the most in-demand managers in world football at the moment. If rumors are to be believed, he was Real Madrid’s primary target last summer while Manchester United want him to take over next season.

The main reason for this is that the 46-year-old has been able to build a fantastic team in North London on a shoestring budget. Looking at how this season has shaped up so far, this looks like the 4th season in a row where Tottenham will be finishing among the top 3 – a feat only Tottenham have managed for all of the last three seasons.

Pochettino has been able to produce such a consistent team despite posting a negligible net spend while the teams around Spurs like Man City, Man Utd and more recently Liverpool have invested huge amounts into their squads.

Pochettino has thus managed to keep Tottenham playing at a top level consistently at a time when the financial pinch of the stadium transition is being most severely felt by the club.

Owing to this fact, the Argentine speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham’s game against Wolves, said Tottenham’s project cannot be compared with other clubs.

“It’s difficult to find another club doing the same or delivering the same work as us – the philosophy. Every single club is special and is different,” said Pochettino to AS.

Resisting comparisons to Atletico Madrid, Pochettino insisted that Atletico operated on a much higher budget than Tottenham. He said added: “The investment from Atletico in players is bigger than ours. It is just below, but really close to, Real Madrid’s and Barcelona’s budgets. They keep players like Antoine Griezmann and they signed Diego Costa.”

“I think Atletico’s budget is maybe bigger than any club in the Premier League. It is maybe five times bigger than the budget we have. It is more like Real or Barcelona. It is nothing like Tottenham. Do you think Atletico Madrid is comparable to Tottenham? Atletico Madrid are like City and Liverpool.”

Due to the reasons, the manager just outlined Spurs winning the league would surpass even Atletico’s achievement, and there is no doubt that Pochettino is eyeing the title with Spurs at the moment.
