Poch tells Spurs to focus

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has called on his squad to eliminate the individual errors which have plagued their start to the season.

Spurs host Everton in Saturday’s evening kick-off with just two points from their opening three Barclays Premier League matches.

Pochettino’s side could only draw against Stoke, throwing away a two-goal lead at White Hart Lane.

And they followed that up with another draw at Leicester, this time conceding only moments after Dele Alli scored the opening goal of the game with nine minutes left.

“If we have two points after three games, it is not because we have a lack of player or we don’t sign one striker or one keeper – it is because we make some mistakes like at Leicester or Stoke after we were 2-0 up,” Pochettino said.

“This is not about signing a player. This is about competing much better and this is our focus now.

“Never in football can you switch off for one second – after it happened at Leicester there was a mistake, we conceded a goal – and in the Premier League and a professional team like us we need to avoid that.

“I am optimistic on the future because if we had some real quality player I think our balance is better and only if we fix that will it be a great season.”

Pochettino added to his squad on Friday with the arrival of Son Heung-min in a reported £22million deal from Bayer Leverkusen.

The South Korea forward, 23, will wear the number seven shirt after signing a five-year contract.

”Spurs for me is such a big club and a really good team,” said Son, whose move to White Hart Lane is still subject to international clearance and a work permit.

”My goal has always been to play in the Premier League and Tottenham have given me a great opportunity to do that and I am really happy to have the chance to come here.

”I love the Premier League and I am very excited to play at White Hart Lane. I have not played there yet but I’d Iove to go out there, show my abilities and perform for the Spurs fans as soon as possible.”
