“Poch was right” – Some Spurs fans react as former player punished for disciplinary issues

Many Spurs fans look back on Nabil Bentaleb’s time at Tottenham with a hint of regret as the youngster could have been a great player for Spurs. The Algerian who came through the Tottenham academy, was handed his first start when Tim Sherwood took over the reins from Andre Villas-Boas in the second half of the 2013-14 season.

Pochettino also took to Bentaleb when he arrived at the club as the midfielder was a regular in the Argentine’s first season at the club. However, Bentaleb had a hard time getting back into the team after an injury spell as Mousa Dembele took his place in the starting 11.

The Algerian was eventually sold at the end of the season allegedly due to disciplinary issues. The 24-year-old has been an extremely consistent performer since moving to Schalke.

Ahead of the Bundesliga club’s recent Champions League tie against Manchester City, Bentaleb spoke about how he regretted not being patient during his time with Spurs and said that he would have done things differently if he had a second chance. (The Independent)

His comments seemed to indicate that the midfielder had matured over the last 5 years. However, it looks like he is now back to his old ways as Schalke confirmed through their official twitter handle that Bentaleb has been dropped into the U23s due to disciplinary reasons.

Needless to say, Spurs fans weren’t all that surprised at the news. Here’s how they reacted:
