Pochettino asked about Rose and Alderweireld’s absences from the midweek squad

Mauricio Pochettino has always been a fan of rotating his squad, particularly in the busy winter periods when the fixture list stacks up.

The Argentine decided to rest Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld on Tuesday evening, leaving both out of the Champions League squad altogether.

However, both Rose and Toby have honestly struggled for form so far this season, while Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez came in and looked effective against Red Star Belgrade.

Spurs take on Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League and will need to be at their best defensively to keep out the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.

Tottenham have only kept three clean sheets so far this season from 13 games, which one coming in the penalty shootout defeat to Colchester United.

Pochettino was asked today whether Rose and Alderweireld were well-rested for the Liverpool game, with the gaffer keeping his cards close to his chest.

He said (Football London): “You know that always I try to rotate when we play a lot of games, different players we use. I haven’t decided the starting 11 or the system we are going to use against Liverpool but tomorrow I will have clear ideas.”
