Pochettino asked what he said to the players after the loss to Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur stamped their authority on the title race over Christmas with some prolific and confident wins, only to see the door slammed shut once again yesterday.

Spurs followed up their Xmas thrashings of Everton and Bournemouth with a frustrating, disappointing, and lethargic display at home to Wolves.

Pochettino’s men took the lead in the first half through a superb Harry Kane strike, only to concede a hat trick of Wolves second half goals in the space of fifteen minutes.

No sooner than Tottenham were well in the title race, they are back to outsiders again.

Liverpool won their own fixture yesterday at home to Arsenal, meaning they now go nine points ahead of Tottenham.

City are also likely to overtake the Lilywhites this weekend, with the only saving grace being that the two heavyweights meet at the Etihad next week.

Pochettino was asked exactly what he said to his players after their poor showing.

He said (Football London): “Still we haven’t talked. There was no time, sure tomorrow we are going to do. I think it’s so easy, it’s to move on. We cannot stop to think.

“First of January, it’s there, and we need to be again ready to compete. I think, after that defeat, which in football can happen, we need to be clever enough to try to move on, to be competitive, because it’s going to be tough.

“The first of January there, Cardiff, they won today against Leicester, look Leicester after two amazing victories against Chelsea and City and they lose at home to Cardiff, and Cardiff sure is going to have all the confidence, it’s going to be such a tough game.”
