Pochettino asked whether Lo Celso is fit enough to start against Sheffield United

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino, has been extremely hesitant in throwing his new signings in at the deep end this season, despite the club’s recent struggles.

Tanguy Ndombele has played a pivotal role from the start of the campaign, but he was signed early by Spurs and enjoyed a pre-season at the club.

Lo Celso was initially teased into the first-team with a number of appearances off the bench before he picked up an injury on international duty for Argentina.

The midfield man was then out injured for over a month, before Pochettino began to tease him back in again with yet more substitute appearances.

Last night, in a 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, Lo Celso was handed his full debut and managed to open the scoring.

Pochettino was then asked whether Lo Celso is fit enough to start against Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The manager replied (Football London): “Now we’ve finished the game we need to assess all the players now. We need to assess Dele, we need to assess Tanguy, we need to assess Giovani. Plenty of players that are… we play Sunday, then Wednesday and now we will play Saturday. It is so short the time to recovery that we need to be sure that everyone who is going to compete on Saturday, another massive game for us, is going to be fresh and in condition to be really competitive because we need to really strong and competitive against a very good team like Sheffield United.”
