Pochettino claims hat Spurs deserved more this season – and could have beat Liverpool 3-0

Tottenham Hotspur succumbed to yet another loss yesterday against Liverpool, and yet again it came from the Lilyehites shooting themselves in the foot.

Spurs went 1-0 up within the first minute and somehow managed to defend that scoreline until halftime thanks to some brilliant keeping from Gazzaniga and headed clearances from Sanchez and Alderweireld.

However, Liverpool finally got their breakthrough in the second half through Jordan Henderson, before Serge Aurier gave away a penalty to let Mo Salah put the Reds 2-1 up.

Spurs managed to put a bit of pressure on in the final 15 minutes, but a late Alderweireld header was the closest they came to another 2-2 away draw.

Pochettino has now argued that results have been harsh on Spurs so far this season. Spurs gave away 2-0 leads to draw away to Arsenal and Olympiacos, as well as somehow losing 2-1 to Leicester despite going 2-0 up at one point before VAR stepped in.

The Spurs manager also said that on another day, Spurs could have been two or three up against Liverpool, especially after Son’s effort hit the bar.

Poch said (Football London): “Yes, in this season we deserve more points in the table that we didn’t get. That happens and that is the moment to stay stronger, keep pushing and maybe in different seasons this type of situation results in 2-0 or 3-0 for us in the second half but today it was a different way. It’s important to stay calm and try to assess the team in the best way and take the best decision.”
