Pochettino claims striker will be on many club’s wishlist

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has said that Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is one of the best in the world.

Martinez has enjoyed a fine season for Antonio Conte’s side, having netted seventeen times so far this campaign in all competitions (transfermarkt).

The Argentine has been linked with a move away from the Serie A this summer, with Tottenham’s London rivals, Chelsea said to be keen on bringing him to the Premier League (Sport).

The 22-year-old reportedly has a release clause of around £94 million, which Inter expect to be met in order to allow him to leave (Standard).

Tottenham are also said to be keen to bolster their striking options after failing to do so in the January transfer window.

Pochettino, who is yet to make a return to football management since parting ways with Spurs back in November following a poor start to the season, believes that the Inter forward will be on the wishlist of most top clubs.

Speaking to Radio La Plata (as relayed by the Metro), the former Spurs boss said: “Lautaro Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world. It’s not just for what he does now, but for what his potential means going forward.

“If you start looking at hitmen for the big clubs, clearly his name has to be in there.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Martinez is almost certainly out of our price range and I don’t believe he will be particularly keen to come to us anyway since we have Harry Kane. I don’t believe we are shopping for the same bracket of strikers as the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona, who are looking to improve on their first-choice.
