Pochettino claims that Eriksen’s form has not dropped this season

Tottenham Hotspur dropped yet more points from a winning position against Everton at the weekend, throwing away a 1-0 lead to draw the match 1-1.

This came just a week after losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield despite leading the game inside the first minute.

Christian Eriksen started both matches on Merseyside and has come under criticism for his performances, particularly against the Toffees on Sunday.

Eriksen has well under a year left on his current Tottenham contract, meaning that he could leave on a free in the summer if Spurs don’t agree a new deal. This also means that he can talk to non-English clubs in January about a pre-contract agreement for a summer move.

However, Football London report that Pochettino claimed in his press conference today that Eriksen’s form has not dropped from recent years. He also added that the player is trying to get back to his best after surgery in the summer.

Poch said: “I don’t think the performance of Christian is any different than when we signed him five and a half years ago. His commitment is the same as five years ago, and I am happy with him.

“Sometimes we look too much at whether players have a four or a five-year contract. Look too much about whether a player has a one year contract or a four-year contract, in the end, it is about commitment. Maybe players in the last year of their contract show more commitment than a player with four more years on their contract.

“When you see Christian and you compare him to different seasons, he is the same player. He got an injury with the national team on his groin and pre-season was not the best pre-season for him. Commitment and the way he is doing I am happy with him.”
