Pochettino claims there is no pressure on his team despite poor results

The games are coming thick and fast for Tottenham and Pochettino now as we head towards the busy winter period in the Premier League.

However, it is the Champions League the Spurs boss will be concentrating on this evening as he prepares to lead his side out against Red Sar Belgrade at the new Spurs stadium.

Tottenham have yet to win a Champions League match this season after the disappointing draw away to Olympiacos and the embarrassing 7-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.

However, a solid victory tomorrow night against Red Star would put the Lilywhites back in a good position in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.

The pressure is beginning to mount more and more on the players and manager with each passing game though, as Spurs are now three without a win across all competitions.

Despite this, Pochettino is adamant that there is no pressure and that his players need the freedom to perform.

He said (Football London): “Yes but there is no pressure on the team. They need to feel they have the freedom to play and I have said that the most important thing is that the players feel the freedom and perform. Because against Watford we made a mistake and we were punished and we conceded as we did against Brighton, but that happens in this type of period.

“The most important thing is to understand that we need to give our best, be solid and be strong and focused and concentrated, because when all the circumstances are against you, the most important thing is to be strong. You need to expend more energy. Yes we know the situation is all about games and time, be solid, train, never give up, and be focused on your work and improving. And be able to win.

“The most important thing is that people say expectation has changed after the final of the Champions League for this club. And for this group of players. That is why it looks worse, this situation. But the most important thing is to build our confidence again. We are conceding a lot of goals and chances and the results are not what we expect and of course that is our objective again to be a solid team, and of course to perform in the way we can perform. And of course it is going to be important to have three points more but the most important thing it to be solid tomorrow, recover our good feelings and performance in the way we can perform. But a win will obviously help.”
