Pochettino comfortable with Alderweireld exit

According to The Daily Star Toby Alderweireld could be heading to Manchester United and manager Mauricio Pochettino is OK with it.

The Belgian has become one of the best Premier League defenders around since joining Tottenham in 2015 playing a key role in helping cement Spurs as top four regulars and big-hitters in Europe.

However following a contract impasse the 29-year-old looks to be heading out of the north London club this summer the article adds that United are keen on bringing the Belgium international north, and Spurs are ready to do business with their Premier League rivals.

The article quotes Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge as saying on the Transfer Talk podcast:

“Alderweireld, I can’t see him staying at Tottenham. As it stands, Manchester United are the club who want him.

“They are the frontrunners, I can’t see anyone in La Liga spending the sort of money that Tottenham want. Obviously Spurs fans will be saying ‘we don’t want to sell to a top-six rival’.

He added: “But Mauricio Pochettino, who has signed his new deal to 2023, he’s the one who is saying ‘I’m happy to sanction it. Manchester United are the club who are speaking to Tottenham Hotspur.”

Bridge went on to say: “Tottenham have a long-standing interest in Anthony Martial dating back to his time at Monaco. Martial is on Tottenham’s shortlist.”
