Pochettino comments on Heung Min Son’s mental strength after a tough week

Tottenham Hotspur’s starting line up last night was definitely one to excite fans as the club took on Red Star Belgrade away from home in the Champions League.

Giovani Lo Celso was making his full debut, Ndombele started again, Juan Foyth came in at right-back, Eric Dier was back into the centre of defence, Harry Kane returned from illness, and Heung Min Son was back in the side after a tough week.

Just a few days earlier, the South Korean was sent off for a challenge from behind on Everton midfielder, Andre Gomes.

A combination of Son’s tackle, Gomes’ studs catching the turf, and Aurier’s late challenge resulted in a horrific fracture-dislocation in Gomes’ ankle.

Son left the pitch to the tune of a red card with tears in his eyes, distraught over the part he had played in the injury.

However, he was back in the starting line up last night and even bagged two goals, with Pochettino commenting on his mental strength.

Poch said (Football London): “I told you, it wasn’t a big issue. It was a problem for everyone, not only for Sonny, for everyone on the pitch. We feel very sorry about what happened to Andre, but he moved on quickly. We helped him to move on. It was a mix of everything, not only the injury, the red card, how we missed the three points. He moved on quickly and we helped him to move on and today he scored twice and he helped the team win the three points which was the most important thing.”
