Pochettino comments on January transfers again – ‘I don’t say yes or no’

Tottenham Hotspur showcased yet another example of why some fans believe January transfers are a must this season today.

The Lilywhites welcomed Watford to the new stadium, a club that sat bottom in the Premier League table at the time of playing, with Tottenham in ninth.

However, within five minutes of the kick-off, Spurs found themselves behind yet again, with a mountain to climb as the Hornets put ten men behind the ball.

Spurs have only managed three wins so far this season, which is a poor return for a side who made the Champions League Final just three months ago.

With Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Christian Eriksen seeing their contracts run down at the end of the season, Pochettino may soon be forced to turn to new blood.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, the Argentine has been asked whether the club will sign players this week, and today was no different.

However, it seems that Poch is fed up with this particular question and claims the decision will be made when the time comes.

He said (Football London): “You are guessing and in the last few months I have taken many questions from you, different interviews, and always I am clear with you. I don’t say yes or no. I don’t say we are going to sign or not sign, sell or not sell.

“It is not the moment to talk, when the time arrives we are going to take that decision in one way or another. But please, I am not contradictory in my speech or my press conference. Now is the time to stay all together, all of the squad, with the staff and the fans and try and change the atmosphere.

“We are not going to get any benefit to talk about January, it is too far away, we have got a lot of games to play. That is the structure of the club that is working and thinking and they need to be ready if we need to do something, if not we keep going, but I am happy with the squad, I am happy with the players.

“Like always, what is going to happen in January I cannot guess today, what happens will happen. We need to take the responsibility. But that question, if we win all of the games why will we need to do anything, but if we need something we need to act. But we need to act and stay calm. The most important thing now is to provide calm to the players, they need to recover for Tuesday because it is going to be important to win and build again our confidence, it is going to be tough because the Champions League is always tough.”
