Tottenham Hotspur are now halfway through their pre-season tour of Asia, after getting off to a winning start against Juventus earlier this week.
Harry Kane grabbed the headlines by lobbing the Juve keeper from the halfway line in injury time to win the match 3-2.
However, another Spurs frontman who was instrumental in the win was Heung Min Son, who created the opening goal by playing in Troy Parrot, with Lamela eventually finishing.
Son was the pain in Juventus’ side for the entire first 45, carving multiple goalscoring chances for himself, even hitting the post on one occasion.
Tottenham had to watch Sonny return to Asia twice last season in order to compete in tournaments with South Korea, but they won’t mind his visit this time around.
The Spurs winger has of course been one of the most popular figures in the training camp with local fans and Pochettino has even compared the star to David Beckham.
Poch said (Football London): “I’m not surprised. We can appreciate and see how the people love Sonny here in Asia. Of course, he’s an icon. I compare him before to David Beckham in popularity. It doesn’t surprise me but it’s good to see how the people love him and how important he is for the people. I am happy to hear him telling you that he still wants to improve, be better and work hard. That mentality is fantastic and that is why he is a very good example for all the fans and all the people, not only here but in Asia if not the word.
“I think after the first season he’s (Sonny) a very happy boy. The first season was tough to adapt to England, to the new football, new culture, new habits. Tottenham was in a position that we start to grow very quickly in a project that was difficult to come and fit in quickly and play. It was very tough, but after the first season his adaptation was unbelievable and he became a very important player for us.”
