Mauricio Pochettino has delivered positive team news on four key players today in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League final.

Spurs are set to face Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday, June 1, as both teams look to fight it out to lift the prestigious Champions League trophy.

While Harry Kane, Davinson Sanchez, and Jan Vertonghen have all been out injured in recent weeks, all three returned to training last week (Daily Mail).

Pochettino has now confirmed that everyone is positive that they can be involved on Saturday, despite these recent injuries.

He also added that Harry Winks, a player who also recently returned to training after groin surgery (Independent), is in a similar situation and is hopeful of featuring too.

The press then tried to get Pochettino to reveal if Harry Kane would start the match, but Poch wasn’t about to reveal his team selection just yet.

He said (Football London): “I like that you ask me today, it is right time to ask me, not after Ajax. I think Harry Kane is in the last week – Friday and Saturday – start to be involved with the group. It’s very positive, the situation with him. We have one week ahead to see how he is progressing. It’s so important that he feels well and he’s very positive. We’ll see what happens. I cannot say if he’ll be 100% fit or starting, or on the bench or out. But we are so, so positive and happy with his progression – like Jan Vertonghen, Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez that are in the same process. The four players started Friday and Saturday to be involved, that made everyone very positive they can be involved at the weekend. It’s very good news for us.”

On Kane starting the match, he added: “You want to know too much! Football is about collective, team, spirit. It’s about belief and faith. Look how we arrived when Harry was injured. He got injured in the quarter-final [first leg] against Manchester City and then we got the top four – one of the most fantastic seasons for us. And he wasn’t involved. That doesn’t mean he’s not one of the best players on the team. For me, he’s one of the best strikers in the world. He’s in the top three. But look at the circumstances, it’s so important always spirit. Football is a collective sport. With one or another, we need to believe we can beat our opponents. With Harry Kane, better for us. But it’s not about Harry Kane, it’s about whether Harry Kane can help the team. He’s so humble. He’s a very normal person, one of our stars. If he’s ready, I’m the first person to be more than happy. But we’re going to take the right decision. We’re going to take the best decision for the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

If all four of these players were 100% fit and ready, I would start Vertonghen, Kane, and Winks, with Sanchez on the bench to sure up the defence if needed later in the game. However, only the players and Poch know how many minutes they have in the tank, and it will be interesting to see who he selects from the start.
