Pochettino: Drink driving caused Lloris’ injury

Tottenham Hotspur sank to their third straight defeat in all competitions on Tuesday evening, losing 2-1 to Inter Milan in the Champions League, despite leading in the 85th minute.

Goalkeeper Michel Vorm has come under much criticism of late, especially after his performance during the Liverpool game.

Vorm managed to punch a corner ball backwards, and failed to clear Wijnaldum’s looping header off the line in time. He then narrowly missed stopping the ball in the build up to the second goal too.

The Dutchman is currently deputising for the injured Hugo Lloris, who has been out with a thigh problem for a couple of weeks now.

Since Lloris has departed from the starting line up, three wins in a row has turned to three losses in a row, as it seems that Tottenham are in dire need of their French shot stopper and captain.

In August, Lloris was caught drink driving by police, and was later fined £50,000 and given a 20 month driving ban.

Bizarrely, Manager Pochettino believes this could be the real reason for Hugo’s injury problems: “I think he was under stress during the game against Manchester United. I think the injury and with the added stress maybe created that injury.

“The injury now is helping him to take time and think and be a little bit more relaxed. To compete after what happened was a massive stress for him.”

The return date for the World Cup winning captain is still unknown, with Poch stating: “It is a point that we still do not know.

“We hope as soon as possible but we think the plan is still next week if everything goes to plan in training.

“It is private. I think the punishment came from the court and public judgement is massive punishment. All that happened inside, I think we want to keep it inside, that’s much better.”
