Pochettino eases injury fears on Spurs defensive duo

A 4-0 win for Spurs against Stoke City was the perfect tonic for fans after the Europa League debacle.

However, the White Hart Lane faithful were starting to think ‘oh no, not again’ when both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld both left the game before the 90 minutes were up.

We all know that when one of our Belgian centre-halves are missing, we look defensively shaky and to lose both at once would be a nightmare.

However, Mauricio Pochettino has reassured fans by saying that both were substituted as a precaution and he is optimistic they will be available to face Everton next weekend.

Fans will be crossing everything that both are fit for the visit of the Toffees as we look to continue our unbeaten record at White Hart Lane in the Premier League this season – which is of course our last season in the stadium as we know it.

“Both asked to leave the pitch more for caution than problems,” Pochettino said.

“I hope in a few days they can start again to work with the group, we will play next Sunday and they will have time enough to recover.”
