Pochettino expects tough London derby contest

We travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday hoping for a first win at the ground for 28 years – and three points would strengthen our grip on Champions League qualification.

And Pochettino is expecting a passionate contest saying: “I think, to compare with Arsenal, I think it is similar. Similar in everything.Arsenal, Chelsea are always tough games because they are derbies. For me it is a similar type of opponent and, for the fans, it is so important.

He added:”And of course three points for us would be fantastic, to put us in a very good position in the table.”

It was almost two years ago that Chelsea ensured We would not be able to catch Leicester in the title race, as the infamous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ finished in a 2-2 draw.

If we claim victory we will be eight points clear of Chelsea in fifth and Pochettino said: “It is always a massive game, because it is a London derby. I think, when you play this type of game, I think the pressure is for both teams.Of course, there are still a lot of games to play.

He added: “It is not a final, it is not a decisive game that is going to put you in one or another position, because there are still a lot of games to play. But obviously it is important for your confidence, your motivation.

He went on to say: “To win against Chelsea would be fantastic for everyone but it will be a very tough game – they are a very good team and it is always tough to compete with them.”
