Pochettino explains why key first team player was missing from training

Tottenham Hotspur will take on Juventus on Sunday at the Singapore National Stadium in what will be the the club’s first pre-season game .

This fixture is the first of two successive matches that both clubs will play as a part of the International Champions Cup.

Spurs will then travel to Shanghai to take on Manchester United on Thursday in the second game of the competition.

Ahead of the game against Juventus, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino sat down for his pre-match press conference earlier today giving the press their first chance to pose questions to the Argentinean.

Football.London have published the highlights of the press conference in which the Spurs manager was asked about the Champions League final heartbreak, summer transfers, and his expectations for the season.

The 47-year-old was also asked about the players who haven’t travelled with the squad for the tour.

Pochettino hinted that Danny Rose, Vincent Janssen, and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou, were trying to sort out moves away from the club.

While club captain Hugo Lloris made the trip to Singapore, his absence from training was noticed by the media.

When sked about the whereabouts of the French World Cup winner, Pochettino told Football.London: “Hugo has got tonsillitis.”

It remains to be seen if Lloris will be well enough to play any part against Juventus, but it is unlikely he will be risked considering the depth of goalkeeping options that are available to the Spurs boss on tour.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on Pochettino’s comments it looks like Danny Rose is on his way out of the club. We believe that he deserved to stay for at least one more season given the form he displayed towards the end of last season. However, given his age and the fact that he only has two years left on his deal, it looks like the club have decided now is the best time to cash in on him.
