Pochettino explains why Nkoudou has not been in the Spurs squad this season

Mauricio Pochettino has opened up on why Georges-Kevin Nkoudou has not been involved in the Tottenham Hotspur matchday squad this season.

The winger featured regularly on Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the USA and scored the winning goal in the match against AC Milan but since the new campaign has begun, he has found himself struggling to get into the squad,

Nkoudou couldn’t even get a place on the bench for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup win against Watford, despite the fact that Pochettino made eight changes to the squad.

While Pochettino confirmed that Nkoudou will be among the squad of 20 players for the visit of Cardiff City to Wembley, he could be one of two traveling reserves who provide cover in case any of the 18 in the matchday squad pick up an injury during the warm-up or feel unwell.

Pochettino told Football.London: “It’s not easy. He’s in the squad of 20 players for tomorrow, yes. I need to decide if he will be on the bench or not,”

“Look, it’s not easy when you have 25 players. Nearly all the players play. I think we are the team that gave more possibility to play to the whole squad,”

“Maybe for him it’s a struggle to take the opportunity for different reasons, maybe perhaps because I prefer to play with another player and not that he’s good or not good. But it’s because I decide to play with different players than him.”
