Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for his young players following our 4-1 pre-season friendly victory over Roma in San Diego
Pochettino has brought several youngsters on the club’s pre-season tour of the USA including the likes of Luke Amos, Anthony Georgiou, George Marsh and Oliver Skipp, who are all looking to take the opportunity to impress their manager in order to try and make the step up to the first team squad.
All four were given a taste of first-team action in the International Champions Cup win against Roma on Wednesday.
The Spurs boss was particularly impressed with the excellent performance from Amos, who began the game in holding midfield, but when questioned he stopped short of comparing him to former Spurs star Ryan Mason, who had to recently retire and is now back at the club in a coaching capacity.
“Yes but I don’t want to say there is a similarity with the feeling I got with Ryan. But Luke played very well and he still needs to work hard,”: Pochettino told Football London.
“I thought he and all our midfielders who came on the pitch showed an amazing energy.
Pochettino added: “I am so happy we have these types of players who are always willing to work so hard and keep running. Luke has a lot of quality. He needs to work hard to find the opportunity to play. But I am so proud of his performance and that of all our midfielders.”
