Pochettino gives an update on Heung Min Son’s fitness

Tottenham’s Heung Min Son was yet again the hero today as Spurs beat Newcastle 1-0 at Wembley.

Son returned early from the Asia Cup after South Korea’s shock defeat against eventual champions Qatar.

Despite his three games at the tournament, Pochettino chose to throw him straight into action from the start against Watford in midweek.

Son looked far from fatigued though, as he completely ran the show, eventually helping Spurs to all three points with a goal in the 2-1 win.

The South Korean started yet again today against Newcastle, and played 88 minutes to follow his 90 in mid week.

There seem to be no question marks over his fitness now, and he certainly isn’t showing any signs of tiredness on the pitch.

Pochettino was asked in today’s post match press conference if there was any risk playing Son from the start today in the absence of goal scorers Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Poch said (Football London): “No, no. When we assess him, when I asked this guy [points to his assistant manager Jesus Perez] if he’s fully recovered or not and the medical staff, the sports science team and all the data and assessment was very positive, a full recovery yesterday and that’s why he played. Another player maybe didn’t start or was on the bench.”
