Pochettino identifies rhe characteristic that helped Spurs overcome Fulham

Tottenham overcame Fulham in dramatic fashion at Craven Cottage yesterday thanks to a stoppage-time winner from midfielder Harry Winks.

Tottenham went into the game without the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, and Lucas Moura, and went 1-0 down in the first half courtesy of an own goal by Fernando Llorente.

However, Spurs picked up the tempo after the interval and equalised early in the second half through a Dele Alli header.

The Lillywhites kept pushing for a winner and eventually found it through an unlikely source in Harry Winks, in what was pretty much the last action of the game.

The players, away fans as well as the Tottenham bench exploded with joy at the winner. It was a much needed three points as well as it gave Spurs some breathing space in the race for the Champions League spots as it put them four points clear of Chelsea who occupy fourth place.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino hailed the squad’s belief and insisted that it is what helped Tottenham get over the line.

During the post-match press conference at Craven Cottage, Pochettino told football.london: “The first thing when arrived nearly five years ago was to translate a normal way to work. Always be calm and translate the belief and to create something special at the club. I think it’s a thing that you want to create but you need time.”

“From the beginning, I think it was tough and you know very well, but now after nearly five years, it’s one thing that we have.”

The Argentine said despite the tough circumstances surrounding the game as well as the problems Spurs have faced this season, this team has always had tremendous belief in themselves.

He added: “Maybe we have some luck, maybe we didn’t sign someone in the summer or finish the stadium, many things again. But one thing we have is belief and we trust in each other on the inside, the squad, the staff.”

“That’s the most important thing, in this type of game, with many negative things that happened during the week and an unfair result last weekend, it’s a very dangerous place to play against a team that is playing for survival and how we started the game.”

“Always you have the belief, and the quality, you have the plus you can have the reward from the universe. Of course, when you fight in that way, it arrives.”
