Pochettino implies that he expects Spurs to fight for silverware

Tottenham have come under a lot of criticism for the start they have made to the season as the Lilywhites managed to win just one of their first four Premier League matches.

While the draws away at Manchester City and Arsenal were good results, the home defeat against Newcastle, in particular, was a massive blow for the side.

Coming off the international break, Spurs were expected to find it really difficult to break Crystal Palace down.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men put in a fantastic display on Saturday as they monopolised possession, pressed with great intensity and cut through the visitors’ defence every time they went forward.

The win now takes Tottenham to third in the table, just two points off Manchester City who lost away to Norwich City.

Speaking after the game, the Tottenham manager insisted that the club can fight for big trophies this season if they continue to show the same intensity as they did against Palace.

The Argentine told Football.London, “If we show that intensity in all our games for sure we are going to fight for big things. I am so happy to recover that feeling.

“We all needed it but now it’s to keep pushing. This is the first step of the season.

“With this match we have seven games in 21 days and all are going to have the possibility to play and we are going to rotate in different games.

“That is the most important thing. We are going to give the chance to all the players to play and show their quality and fight for their place.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The season is extremely long and there will be many twists and turns along the way. Once the new signings settle in and get used to a new of playing, there is no doubt that the Spurs squad is phenomenal. While catching Man City and Liverpool will be difficult, I think the players and the coaching staff will believe they can.
