Pochettino insists he cannot take rash decisions with selecting Spurs pair

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Anfield this afternoon with an almost fully fit squad to choose from.

Only Hugo Lloris is sidelined following the disclocated elbow he suffered in the recent 3-0 defeat at Brighton (Spurs official).

Spurs were recently boosted by the return of Giovano Lo Celso to first team training after recovering from the hip injury which he pickedup while on international duty with Argentina in September (BBC).

The 23-year-old was given a late cameo during the 5-0 win against Red Star Belgrade in midweek as he looks to build up his match fitness after a spell on the sidelines.

In an interview with the official Spurs site, Mauricio Pochettino was asked if Lo Celso was ready to step up further following his European run-out.

Pochettino played down the risk of rushing Lo Celso and fellow deadline day signing Ryan Sessegnon back before they are ready.

Lo Celso is yet to start a game for Spurs while Sessegnon is still waiting for his debut.

Pochettino told the official Spurs site: “Like different players, maybe players who were injured or need to wait for their opportunity, Giovani arrived this season and was a little unlucky in his preparation.

“We cannot take rash decisions with him and Ryan Sessegnon. They were out injured for a long period and it’s step by step. The most important thing is the collective and to perform like we performed against Red Star, while at the same time knowing it’s a different competition and completely different game.”
