Pochettino insists Man Utd game won’t affect selection against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur have two big matches in the space of a few days when they face Chelsea the Carabao Cup this evening, followed by the visit of Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Tottenham go into the Chelsea game in great form, having almost been flawless in the festive period apart from the slight blip against Wolves.

Pochettino has not been afraid to rotate his squad through this busy period and has made a lot of changes in all areas of the pitch apart from center midfield, where Tottenham have mostly stuck with the pairing of Winks and Sissoko due to multiple injuries.

The game against Chelsea comes in the middle of a busy schedule with Spurs having traveled to Tranmere on Friday night. Additionally, Tottenham take on a rejuvenated this weekend in what will be a crucial game for both teams.

Pochettino has however insisted that he is only thinking about picking a team that can beat Chelsea and that the Man Utd game won’t affect his selection.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the tie against Chelsea, the Argentine told Football.London: “We’re going to try, like the FA Cup and now the Carabao Cup, we’re going to try to win. Every time Tottenham play it’s always in my mind, it not the names that play”

The 46-year-old also suggested that Tottenham have the squad to cope with the busy schedule. He added, “It’s about the quality and we have a great quality in our squad. We have a strong squad.”

“It’s not about playing one or another it’s about the responsibility to win and tomorrow we are going to try to put the best starting XI out to win the first leg.”
