Pochettino issues new slate statement to players

Mauricio Pochettino has implied that those players who desired for a transfer this summer have the opportunity to wipe the slate clean in early season.

Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele were all linked with moves away from North London.

However, the Tottenham manager says that he is willing to ‘start from zero’ to make this season a success.

Pochettino explained: “I told them yesterday, for me it’s like we start from zero. I asked them with the possibility that they are going to have the need to trust.

“All the players who want to stay in Tottenham they need to show their commitment, and their commitment until the end is not one week, two weeks, one month. If they choose to stay in Tottenham, the rules are so clear.

“The manager decides who plays, names or no names, who deserves to be on the pitch.”

It appears that one player who has already leapt on board is Toby Alderweireld, who looked set to leave for Manchester United in the summer.

He tweeted after the win against Newcastle on opening day: “First game, first win! Let’s go and win the title in our new stadium!”

It’s unclear whether the stadium will be ready, but apparently Toby is.
